Questioning the Gospel

March 19, 2009 FB
These are common questions that I have noticed are usually left unanswered when the gospel is presented. I have also noticed that there are usually connecting parts that are left out. They are not questions of evidence, but of how salvation actually works. See if you can come up with an answer for each, and use Bible verses to support your answers. If you can think of any more questions let me know.

-In our culture this issue should be addressed first: What is God like and why does being with him matter?

You are a sinner
-What is sin, or a sin, and why is it so bad?

The wages of sin is death
-Why do sins need to be punished?
-What is so bad about death as the penalty for sin if I'm going to die physically anyway? The next logical step in this reasoning:...Then is God unfair to hold sin against me if everyone dies anyway?
-Why can’t I be given eternal life if my physical death is payment for my sins? Is my physical death enough to pay for my sins? Why can’t I die for my own sins?
-If physical death is not the penalty for sin then what kind of death is it?
-What am I dead to?
-Why can't I wait until after I die to deal with this?
-Almost every believer forgets to answer this: Why can't I earn eternal life by being good?

The Turn
-If I can’t do anything to get eternal life, then how do I get it?

Christ died for you
-Why did Jesus die for me?
-Why is Jesus the only way?
-Why could only Jesus die for me, and not someone else? Who is Jesus?
-Why did Jesus have to be perfect?
-FOR: Did he die on my behalf, or in my place?
-What happened with my sins when Jesus died?

Christ rose from the dead
-Why did Jesus rise from the dead?
-Why does Jesus resurrection matter for salvation?

Trust in Christ for salvation
-What does it mean to trust?
-Why do I need to trust Jesus?
-What is eternal life?
-An important distinction to make: Do I believe in Jesus’ life he lived/death on the cross/resurrection, or do I trust in him personally?

In every Gospel presentation these are the things that must be adressed:
-The character of God (love and holiness)
-The depravity of man
-The penalty for sin
-The nature of Jesus (God and man)
-The sacrifice of Jesus
-The resurrection of Jesus
-The definition of trust
-The basic things to say to God/Jesus for salvation
-An invitation to trust

I will put together a gospel presentation that answers all the questions.
